As we prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, there are plenty of folks who are busy plotting their money-saving strategies to snag all the best Black Friday deals in stores and malls across the state.
There are definitely deals out there for those hardy enough to join the crowds. But it can get dangerous out there. From episodes of road rage to assault by fellow shoppers, below are some hazards to avoid this holiday season.
Aggressive drivers
As one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, there are plenty of cars and trucks jockeying for position on interstates and highways. Add the inherent stresses of Thanksgiving (the cooking! the in-laws!), and you have the perfect mix for aggressive driving.
To stay safer, give a wide berth to anyone who is driving erratically or aggressively.
Overstocked shelves
It’s very easy for a heavy stack of microwaves or boxes of computer desks to come tumbling down onto the heads and shoulders of shoppers. These blunt-force injuries can cause traumatic injuries with permanent consequences.
Altercations with other shoppers
Getting into a tug-of-war with other bargain hunters over the latest high-tech widget never ends well. You never know who might pull and use a weapon, creating dangers to all in the vicinity. Stores can avoid this type of liability by having sufficient security on the premises to deter violent interactions.
What happens after a shopping injury?
Injured parties, if they are able, should insist on a report being made. Call an ambulance and get treated for your injuries. Make sure that you correctly relay the details of the incident on the store’s premises. If you are too severely injured, a relative or companion can fill in your medical providers.
